Part 2

California Highway 1

Day 3
San Francisco Los Angeles

9:30AM

After a quick trip to a breakfast cafe near our hotel and an awkward run-in with a crazy lady who cackled at us outside a mall, we arrived at our first stop — the bottom of Lombard St. It was not as crowded at 9:30am as it was the afternoon prior, though we still weren’t able to grab any good photos of us and the iconic winding road. We had to go quickly, we decided, to make more time for the rest of the trip.

10:15AM

For our next stop, only 30 minutes of driving later, we went to Taco Bell. But not just any Taco Bell! Taco Bell Cantina in Pacifica, which has been hailed the most beautiful Taco Bell in the world. What made it even more special was that it was V’s first time! I don’t know how she ever lived without cheesy fiesta potatoes as a vegetarian but now she can never live without them.

The food was pretty much the same as any regular Taco Bell but I liked to think the views enhanced the flavor. We ate as we marveled at surfers walking past in the 50 degree weather, and I thought of how I always manage to underestimate how cold it gets in California.

11:30AM

Up next is Half Moon Bay State Beach, only 15 minutes away from the Taco Bell. Our little hike was short lived (for me and V, anyway) because of how windy it was and how underprepared we were for the cold. Still, the cliff was gorgeous, full of lush greenery and flowers. Juhee and Judy took some photos while V and I braced the cold at a picnic table near the car.
